The Badgemore Park Estate is located on the outskirts of Henley-on-Thames. It has a successful golf club and hospitality business catering for tourists, visiting golfers, weddings, parties and corporate events. It occupies a stunning location within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and comprises some architecturally sensitive buildings.
In order to expand its tourism offering the Estate plans to extend part of the complex to provide bedroom accommodation for visitors and staff. The planned extension is not large enough to be required to comply with the local authority policy of achieving an Excellent rating under the BREEAM scheme. However, the client was keen to ensure that the development met the sustainability aspirations of the local authority and that it was in line with a future which demands carbon reduction and reduced impact on the environment.
Blewburton was appointed to examine the plans to assess them against the Local Authority’s sustainability policy, to determine their environmental impact and to recommend ways in which it can be further reduced.
