Construction of apartment blocks and commercial space, Hatfield

This project involved the production of an Energy Strategy for 71 flats and five retail units across three blocks on a site in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The Local Authority had not set any requirements above Building Regulations Compliance but the client was keen to ensure this was achieved in the most appropriate way.

Blewburton modelled a representative sample of units in SAP and SBEM software to develop a picture of the site’s performance based on the client’s initial specification. In liaison with the client our consultants we modelled a number of scenarios, refining the specification and improving the efficiency of the buildings. This early involvement allowed the design team to really consider the options presented and to settle on a cost effective and efficient construction.

It is currently predicted that the site as a whole will achieve a reduction in emissions of greater than 6% on Building Regulations. Demolition works have now been completed on site, as the project progresses Blewburton will remain in contact with the design team, advising them should any changes to the specification be proposed. Prior to construction starting on site Blewburton will model each unit to ensure compliance and upon completion we will lodge Energy Performance Certificates.
